API Rate Limits & Best Practices

Chatofy API applies rate limits to ensure fair usage and platform stability. Understanding these limits helps you design integrations that scale without hitting errors.

Default Rate Limits

  • Requests per second — 10 requests per second per API key
  • Burst limit — 30 requests in a 5-second window
  • Daily quota — Varies by plan (contact support for increases)

Handling Rate Limit Responses

When you exceed a rate limit, the API returns a 429 Too Many Requests status with a Retry-After header. Your integration should respect this header and implement exponential backoff with jitter.

Best Practices

  • Implement local caching for frequently accessed data like templates
  • Use webhooks instead of polling for real-time updates
  • Batch requests where possible (e.g., bulk contact operations)
  • Monitor your usage via the X-RateLimit-* response headers
  • Contact support if you need a higher limit for your use case

Requesting a Limit Increase

If your integration requires higher rate limits, reach out to our support team with your expected volume and use case. We evaluate requests based on account history and plan tier.
